A New Mountains Podcast: 'Mountain Stories, Mountain Futures'
Jason König, Jonathan Westaway, and Jonathan Pitches have launched a new podcast called Mountain Stories, Mountain Futures, exploring humanity’s relationship with mountains through culture, history, and creative practice.
The podcast is part of a broader “mountain humanities” initiative that focuses on how people have responded to mountain in culture and across time and geography. Each episode will feature expert guests sharing new research and perspectives on mountain communities around the world.
Their approach might be from an academic perspective, though the hosts noted that they’ll speak with those engaging with mountains from an artistic or cultural perspective.
The inaugural episode, published December 16, features cultural anthropologist Alexandra Cotofana discussing her work on the Romanian Carpathians, including the concept of “sentient landscapes” and how mountain narratives intersect with contemporary Romanian politics.
You can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or directly on the Mountain Stories, Mountain Futures website.
