Reading Before Writing = Brain Calibration

In: Creator's Log

Luciano is in daycare now. I caught up on a few things this week, posted a few articles and a new YouTube video, and now I’m back into one of the book proposal’s sample chapters. Today I quickly read through what I had previously written and did some light editing/typing/sourcing.

The point of doing the read-through is to try to get back into the mood/vibe of the chapter before diving into writing again. If you haven’t looked at your project in a while, it is helpful to re-familiarize yourself with it, to get back into the head space of the work. This has the same effect as reading literature or other people’s work before writing. It serves as a kind of brain calibration, it charges the air with some sort of literary sensibility that gets infused in your own work.
