Synopsis

SPAIN, 1550s. In the bustling port city of Seville, Rodrigo is a qualifier for the Inquisition. His job, to evaluate books and testimony for the stain of Lutheranism. However, he guards a secret that the Holy Office does not know about… that is, until he is denounced as a heretic.

New to the city, Genoese merchant Domenico seeks a better life working for his rich and powerful uncle. Wanting to succeed and prove his worth, he takes on a risky business deal that pulls him into a clandestine network of book smugglers.

Set against the backdrop of the Counter Reformation, Denounced is the remarkable story of two men whose paths collide as the Holy Office clamps down on Protestantism and the illegal book trade in Spain.

Based on true events, this historically rich and tragic story brings to life an often-overlooked period of religious persecution, suspicion, and paranoia during the Renaissance.
